JHUS – B.A.B.Y ALBUM (REVIEW)
We got it! 3rd album by the one and only British rapper & singer who has been pioneering the genre of afroswing, Jhus has given us a project after 3 years since ‘Big Conspiracy’.
With a captivating title ‘Beautiful and Brutal Yard’ abbreviated as ‘B.A.B.Y’ you can’t help but appreciate the juxtaposition in the name!
Let’s dissect into this album a little… this body of work has not disappointed fans, if anything I wish I could embrace Hus because of the execution well done on this project. He is the epitome of an artist.
Impeccable features nonetheless from influential figure & rapper Drake with ‘Who told you’ which is doing crazy numbers on the scene right now, British-Nigerian artist Niara Marley, Popcaan, Jorja Smith, Burna Boy & more! All these incredible artists assist with the creation of this album and learning that Burna Boy free-styled his verse on ‘Masculine’ – GENIUS.
A huge applause for production, blessed by the talented TSB the main conductor alongside P2J & Marco Bernardis, as they left no crumbs producing magic. Despite fans being alarmed by the lack of credits from JAE5 former exec producer, Hustla has been able to turn up the dial with his own sound.
His play with words, at this point Hus’ own lingo infused lyricism, mingle within the crisp production. This album flickers with his emotions from being the aggressor to the party starter to even making the ladies feeling sweet!
Jhus has definitely musically matured, we see episodes of this with his smooth tempo change on track 12 ‘Fresh Water/Safa Kara’ you get 2 songs in one! Then the reference between ‘Alien Girl’ & ‘Baby’ a lyrical storyteller. An experience we appreciate!
